·
Preparation:
Before class, please read the sections that will be covered during the class
period. I do not expect you to understand the material, but I do expect you to
be familiar with the material.
·
Lectures:
You must listen and take notes during the lectures. I will work examples that
are different than the ones in your book. You can also follow along with the
lecture notes.
·
Materials:
Please bring your textbook, scientific or graphing calculator, math notebook
with notes, paper, pencil and completed homework to class. If other items are
needed, I will email you prior to class.

Daily assignments: Daily assignments are scheduled on the
calendar page. You need to do all
problems in each section with the exception of the Exploratory
Exercises. Please practice showing
all of your work. When doing
assignments be sure to read the section first. Don’t just skip to the problems. Try to read slowly and read for
understanding. You might want to use a
bookmark and only read one line at a time, making sure you understand what was
said before you move on to the next line.
Understanding the reading will be the key to success in doing the
problems. You
will not turn in the assignments to me. You and/or your parent are responsible for
checking assignments using your solution manual. Be sure to make corrections on any
problems that are missed.
Progress
Self Test: You
do this assignment like a real test. You should only use paper and pencil with
no notes and no book. Correct the
assignment. There is a chart in the back
of the book. You can match the questions
you missed to the specific sections of the book that you need to restudy.
Chapter Review: You are
only required to do the problems that correspond to the questions you missed on
the Progress Self Test. If you feel you need more practice you can also do the rest of the
problems.

Directions:
Your parents can obtain a copy of the test from the File
Manager---locate the blue disk on the GP4 window. Please have your parent proctor the test. They need to sign the top as well as note how much time it
took you to take the test. You take the test on
your own - closed
book, closed notes. Be sure to show
your work either on the test or on additional paper (be organized! - label
so that I can find your work). You may
earn partial credit only if you show your work (that shows me what you were
thinking). This is an assessment to show
what you know and an opportunity for me to identify problem areas that we need
to straighten out. Don’t forget to write your name at the top of the test.
Students must be disciplined enough to
submit required Chapter Tests and Exams on time. Meeting deadlines is an important part of
learning and maturing. I will go by the
To submit the test, choose one of the
following:
1. Mail it to me using the US Postal Service (please make sure
you use proper postage). Tests must be postmarked
within 2 days of the assigned test unless arranged with me prior to the test
date. (Tests assigned on Friday must be postmarked
by the following Monday).
2. Scan your test and then convert it to a pdf file using Adobe Acrobat. You can then email your test to me.
Grading:
·
· Chapter Tests, Exams,
and Projects will be graded by me on the following scale:
§ § 90 – 100% A
§ § 80 – 89% B
§ § 70 – 79% C
§ § 63 – 69% D
§ § below 63% F
·

may be averaged with the test grades as the parent (Principal of the home
school) sees fit.
Questions on Assignments:
I am very happy to answer questions via email. Please be specific when you ask me a
question. Tell me the section and
problem number (the page number doesn’t hurt) and try to ask me a specific
question. I want you to make an attempt
on the problem and then tell me where you seem to be
having trouble. If you are really
struggling with a subject, arrangements can be made for additional help.
Please include your mathematics course name in the subject line
(ie. Transition Math). You
